Tree Plantation Drive

"A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in,"- said Mahatma Gandhi. It means that if you want your children to enjoy the shade of trees, you must plant one now, and this cycle must continue forever. There is no second opinion regarding the plantation of more trees in our area. As much as our locality Khanpur is developed in basic facilities, it still lacks a sufficient number of trees. Even if some plantation does take place, no one comes forward to take up the responsibility. No one makes sure that the trees will ultimately survive. The plantation drive will only be successful if everyone comes along and shows their participation. Is it the responsibility of just one person? Everyone should come together and be a part of this drive as our locality belongs to us, and it's our collective responsibility.

Tree Plantation Drive

Our honorable member of the Indian National Congress, Shri Om Prakash Chaudhary, has initiated a plantation drive and dustbin installation in Khanpur. It is a humble request to all to give their active participation and do their part for society. As we know, Khanpur is quite a developed area with all the primary and secondary shops, banks, clinics, schools, etc. The only thing lacking is the optimum number of trees. Many active members of different political parties have organized tree plantation drives before, but they considered it optional. It is high time that our society leaders realize their duty and take this as a mandatory step.

Unlike earlier days, Khanpur no longer enjoys the former green ambiance. The main road is filled with traffic, the roadside is littered with piles of garbage, and the trees are reducing day-by-day. Why so? Who is responsible? We all are. If our society is not as green as it should have been, then it is we who are accountable, and it is we who must take the initiative to bring back Khanpur to its old glory. The idea was to enroll a young crowd along with our members and plant as many trees as we could. But as I take note of the surroundings, it seems like the area needs a cleanliness drive, too, along with the tree plantation drive.

That is why apart from planting trees, this drive also strives towards making our area clean and hygienic. Since Khanpur has the main market, crowds are inevitable. But we can reduce the garbage and filth to a great extent. It is a humble request to all the shopkeepers to come forward and support this social cause by following a simple routine. It will be a great help in our cause if every shopkeeper keeps a dustbin and a potted plant outside their shop. Since the main road of Khanpur is always busy with traffic, it can become the prime location for tree plantation. As trees not just control air pollution, they control noise pollution also to a great extent. In summers, the pollution becomes unbearable, especially if you are standing in crowd-packed traffic. Khanpur's main road is the common road to reach anywhere. You can't avoid the traffic at any cost. Thus, it would be beneficial if you start thinking from now on how to beat the heat during summers.

For the past several months, we all have been going through severe trauma because of COVID-19. This pandemic has broken us physically and financially. Now we can't revert the economy immediately, but we can give our 100% in its restoration as far as the environment is concerned. A lockdown can only help contain the virus, not our deteriorating health. COVID-19 is severely affecting the most vulnerable group of people, including children, pregnant women, and the elderly. Unlocking has started to bring our economy back on track. But that does not mean COVID-19 is under control. As much as we are paying attention to short-term precautions like sanitization and masks, we must pay attention to long-term goals. And the first step towards that goal would be cleanliness, cleanliness of us, and our locality. Even if we successfully control the COVID-19 pandemic now, some other virus will get ready to spread its branches. Therefore, we should leave no stone unturned in doing our part for our society. This tree plantation drive is a small step for our society by the honorable members of our party who consider this initiative their duty and not some charity.

The dirt on the main road of Khanpur is increasing day by day. As much as we are taking care of our personal health in this pandemic, we do not give our area the required attention. The pile of litter is increasing on the roadside. People are throwing garbage everywhere. All this is a way of inviting more diseases. There are proper dustbins allotted for dry and wet garbage. People are requested to use the acceptable disposal options. This is the least we could do for our area apart from a tree plantation. Planting trees in Khanpur is not just a duty but a necessity. Our volunteers have been actively participating in the tree plantation campaign in other places also. It will be appreciable if the young crowd comes forward to share our initiative. This will foster a culture of responsibility towards nature. School students must take up the leadership for planting trees in their schools and nearby localities. It is important to teach youth the importance of a sustainable environment right from the beginning. Planting trees and keeping surroundings clean are the fundamental and essential steps for a healthy future.

This main road of Khanpur is undergoing metro construction. We would have to face a space crunch on the main road for a while. This construction would prove fruitful for our area. Meanwhile, our motive should be to keep our surroundings clean by placing a garbage bin outside our shops, disposing of the home garbage in the right place and not on the roadside, and, most importantly, planting more and more trees in schools, parks, and the middle of the road. Many of you would have already been engaged in such tree plantation drives but in different areas. Wouldn't it be wise if you give some of your valuable time to your nearby locality that is in dire need of greenery? After all, this is where you and your family live. Khanpur is not just a place. It is your identity. If you want to feel proud in saying that this is your society, then make it a worthy and livable area.
